Conference Plans to Help those on the ‘Down Low’

A one-of-a-kind gathering focusing specifically on the bisexual and pansexual community and their allies, B+ Well: A Wellness Conference for the Bi+ Community, is set for an all-day event on March 2 at Los Angeles City College.

The day of connection and learning promises an exploration of physical, emotional, social and culture wellness for the bi, pan and fluid communities in the greater Los Angeles area with specifically trained professionals and experts.

“People may be unaware that statistically bi people make up 58 percent of the LGBTQ+ population ,yet we continue to face significant disparities in health and well-being, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse and suicide,” said Eric Von Beck, president of the LA Bi+ Task Force, the grassroots non-profit putting on the conference.

“This is our first conference since we started in 2008 and we expect it will go a long way to promote our mission of education, advocacy and cultural enrichment for the bi+ communities.”

Keynote speakers include two Black bi activists: content creator and motivational speaker Michael Lemus and actor/poet/screenwriter Yazmin Monet Watkins.

Special guest is bi candidate for California State Assembly District 54 seat John Yi. And LABTF co-founder and psychologist Dr. Mimi Hoang will moderate the keynote panelists.

Meanwhile, there are sessions about bi culture, building a health relationship with your body, bi+ relationships and marriages, boundaries in your sex life, and other provocative topics.

Tickets are $50 and reduced-fee admissions are available for those who cannot pay.
