ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos was surreptitiously recorded on a New York street saying President Biden effectively wasn’t fit to serve another term to a stranger who asked him, “Do you think Biden should step down? You’ve talked to him more than anybody else has lately.”

You have had a long illustrious career as a host of a fluff news morning TV show while occasionally drifting off into real reporting ventures, but it turns out that your most important news “scoop” may wind up being an off-the-cuff but seemingly honest comment you make to presumably one of your millions of viewers who secretly records you.
“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos said of a beleaguered President Joe Biden who chose him as the journalist to whom he would give his first interview since the disastrous televised debate — part of a campaign to dispel notions that he was unfit for reelection.
Video of the recorded conversation wound up on TMZ.
And now Biden faces a full press corps sniffing blood at a big news conference Thursday. Thank you, Mr. President.
On Tuesday night, Stephanopoulos apologized, but should he have?
It may have been the most honest thing to come out of the interview aired by ABC last Friday and viewed by seen by 8.5 million people.
